S China's Guangdong foreign trade up 9.8 pct on yr to RMB 630.2 bln in Jan

Abstract : The foreign trade value of South China's Guangdong province rose by 9.8 percent year on year to a record high of 630.2 billion yuan in January, according to data from the Guangdong branch of China's General Administration of Customs.

BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The foreign trade value of South China's Guangdong province rose by 9.8 percent year on year to a record high of 630.2 billion yuan in January, according to data from the Guangdong branch of China's General Administration of Customs.

The foreign trade included 389.14 billion yuan of exports and 241.06 billion yuan of imports, which together resulted in a trade surplus of 148.08 billion yuan, soaring up 45.7 percent year on year.

Specially, the province's total imports and exports via cross-border e-commerce hit 3.58 billion yuan in January, surging 47.8 percent year on year, while its export via market procurement dropped by 25.5 percent year on year to 13.18 billion yuan.

Guangdong's general trade amounted to 332.29 billion yuan in January, up 15.3 percent year on year and accounting for 52.7 percent of the province's total foreign trade. The value of processing trade in Guangdong was 208.51 billion yuan and that of bonded logistics stood at 72.04 billion yuan in January.

Foreign-invested enterprises contributed to 270.9 billion yuan of the province's foreign trade in January, while private enterprises remained to be its major foreign trader with 318.46 billion yuan of import and export, which went up 14.4 percent year on year and accounted for 50.5 percent of the province's total foreign trade.

In terms of commodities, Guangdong's exports of mechanical and electrical products as well as labor-intensive products have grown rapidly. Exports of mechanical and electrical products in Guangdong reached 262.88 billion yuan in January, an increase of 13.8 percent and taking up 67.6 percent of the province's total exports. Exports of labor-intensive products amounted to 71.69 billion yuan, up 13.5 percent and accounting for 18.4 percent of the province's total exports.

In addition, imports of consumer goods totaled 22.75 billion yuan in January, up 36.1 percent year on year. Among them, cosmetics imports reached 1.1 billion yuan, an increase of 1.8 fold year on year; and aquatic and seafood imports amounted to 1.46 billion yuan, a jump of 80 percent year on year.

Generally speaking, Guangdong's foreign trade remained stable growth in January, according to the province’s customs authority, who also predicted that Guangdong's overall imports and exports would continue to grow steadily in the first quarter of 2019. (Edited by Su Dan)
