Overseas investors optimistic about China's A-shares

February 11, 2019

Abstract : Overseas investors are bullish on Chinese A-share market, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News reported recently.

BEIJING, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Overseas investors are optimistic about Chinese A-share market, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News reported recently.

The A-share market at a low valuation level presented a buying opportunity for investors seeking long-term returns, according to Zhu Chaoping, strategist at J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

In terms of sectors, foreign investors prefer consumer stocks given the huge domestic consumer market and the trend of consumption upgrading in China.

Chinese consumers pay increasing attention to the quality of goods, which is a boon for high quality enterprises in industries including insurance, travel and medical care, said Aberdeen Standards Investment Management.

UBS Asset Management is optimistic about the long-term prospects of consumption and private enterprises. Specifically, it focuses on four structural opportunities, namely, quality consumption, urbanization and technological innovation.

Chinese stocks surged in the first month of 2019, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closing at over 2,600 points on the last trading day before the Spring Festival, while the ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.52 percent.
