S.China Guangdong foreign trade tops RMB7trln in 2018, hitting historical high

Abstract : South China’s Guangdong province saw a historic high of foreign trade at 7.16 trillion yuan in 2018, topping 7 trillion yuan for the first time and ranks first nationwide for 33 consecutive years, according to statistics released by Guangdong Customs.

BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- South China’s Guangdong province saw a historic high of foreign trade at 7.16 trillion yuan in 2018, topping 7 trillion yuan for the first time and ranks first nationwide for 33 consecutive years, according to statistics released by Guangdong Customs.

The province’s total imports and exports increased 5.1 percent year on year in 2018, taking up 23.5 percent of the country’s total foreign trade.

Specifically, exports amounted to 4.27 trillion yuan, and imports amounted to 2.89 trillion yuan in the year, up 1.2 percent and 11.3 percent on year, respectively, resulting a trade surplus of 1.38 trillion yuan, which narrowed 14.8 percent from 2017.

Guangdong saw imports and exports of private enterprises accelerate in the year, reaching 3.5 trillion yuan, which accounted for 47 percent of the province’s total, up 11.4 percent on year.

The province also saw trade via cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) surge 72 percent on year to 75.98 billion yuan in 2018, according to the Customs. (Edited by Niu Huizhe, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
