BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Abuja-Kaduna railway built by the Nigerian branch of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has witnessed safe operation for 900 days by January 12, yidaiyilu.gov.cn reported.
On October 30, 2006, CCECC signed a contract for a modern double-line railway project from Lagos to Kano with the Ministry of Transport of Negria, with contract value at 8.3 billion U.S. dollars. With a total length of 1,315 km and designed speed at 150 km per hour, it is the first overseas railway project adopting Chinese standard. The Abuja-Kaduna railway is the first section of the railway project.
With a total length of 186.5 km, the Abuja-Kaduna railway connects the capital region of Abuja, Niger state, and Kaduna state, relieving the traffic pressure, improving the investment environment, and boosting the coordinated development of regional economic society in Nigeria.
According to the statistics, the Abuja-Kaduna railway has carried a total of 1.23 million passengers as of January 11. In 2018, the railway line carried 733,400 passengers, up 128.47 percent from the previous year.
