Chinese cobalt firm to build 30,000-t electro-deposit copper mill in Africa -- Chinese cobalt producer, Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co., Ltd (603799.SH) announced on Wednesday that its subsidiary Congo Dongfang Mining International (CDM) will invest 147 million U.S. dollars to build an electro-deposit copper project in Democratic Republic of the Congo. The project, located in the Lukuni copper-cobalt belt, south of Democratic Republic of the Congo, is expected to yield 30,000 metric tons (tonnes) of electro-deposit copper annually. Implementation of the project will help further develop and utilize the local resources and enhance the resource use efficiency, and improve the company's profitability, said the listed company.

Algeria, China sign pacts ahead of 6-bln-USD mega phosphate project -- Algeria and China on Nov. 26 signed cooperation documents for the implementation of a mega integrated project worth 6 billion U.S. dollars for the exploitation of phosphate in the eastern region of Algeria. The deals were signed by CEO of Algerian energy giant Sonatrach Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour and Chairman of CITIC Construction Chen Xiaojia in Algeria. The two parties are due to meet again in December to sign the shareholder pact for the establishment of the consortium group, as a final step that precedes the start of the construction stage of the project due early 2019. The production phase is planned for 2022. China's share in this mega project is estimated at 49 percent, while the Algerian party will hold the majority share of 51 percent. The project will include the duplication of the railway connecting the production site to the port of Annaba, and connecting the sites with industrial water, gas and power.

Construction of B&R Czech Station business service park officially began -- The Europe Huajie Development Company signed a cooperation agreement with Rustonka, a real estate developer affiliated to the Czech financial group J&T Group on December 19, 2018, kicking off construction of a business and trade service park under the Belt and Road (B&R) Czech Stop, reported by Yiwu city's local newspaper. Located in Prague 8 municipal district, the business service park will cover an area of about 3,520 square meters. It is the third project launched under the Belt and Road Czech Stop this year after the freight yard and logistic park. Upon completion, the park is expected to serve as a business platform for hosting trade fairs, commercial and art exhibitions, and cultural exchange events. It will also offer comprehensive services such as financial services, information consultation, research incubation, legal and taxation services, the report said.

Second phase of largest China-Russia cooperative nuke project enters full operation -- On the completion of debugging efforts of the Unit 4 generator on Saturday, the second phase of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant, the largest nuclear cooperation project between China and Russia, has been put into commercial operation. Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant, located in Lianyungang city of east China's Jiangsu Province, is a demonstrative project for deepened cooperation between China and Russia in energy sector. The plant is designed to build eight 1-million-kilowatt pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power generating units with a total installed capacity of more than 9 GW and an annual power generating capacity of 70 billion kWh. The first 4 units of the plant utilized VVER-1000 units designed and supplied by Russian company Rosatom, and meet the third-generation safety requirements. The first three units of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant have entered commercial operation and safely generated more than 190 billion kWh.

First pure electric bus jointly produced by China, Hungary makes debut in Hungary -- The first pure electric bus, jointly manufactured by China's state-owned CRRC Corporation Limited (CRRC) and the well-known Hungarian car-maker Ikarus, made its debut in Székesfehérvár, a city in central Hungary, on December 18. It is reported that the bus was 12 meters in length and equipped with CRRC-made core drive system and Ikarus-made structural components. Székesfehérvár has been committed to building a smart city and shifting toward a green, low-carbon and efficient city, and the bus produced through the cooperation of Chinese and Hungarian firms is the best Christmas gift for citizens here, said mayor of Székesfehérvár.

CCECC-undertaken airport terminal project helps Nigeria build regional air transport center -- The completion ceremony of a Chinese firm-built new airport terminal in Abuja, capital of Nigeria, was held on December 20, with the attendance of officials from Nigeria and China. The project, undertaken by the Nigerian branch of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), started construction on March 1, 2014. It mainly includes a four-story modern passenger terminal covering an area of about 56,000 square meters, a two-story cargo terminal, a 20,000-square-meter phase-1 apron and related supporting facilities. The new airport terminal is very close to the airport station of the Abuja light rail line, the first of its kind in West Africa which was also built by the Nigerian branch of CCECC and began operating from July of this year.

Chinese company chosen to prepare DPR for monorail project in Nepal's capital -- A Chinese Company, China Railway 25th Bureau Group Co. Ltd. (CRCC), has got the responsibility of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a proposed monorail project in capital Kathmandu, three months after the company submitted feasibility study report of the project. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and the Chinese company on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the DPR preparation. The Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), design of monorail, technical and construction capacity, cost and traffic estimates, different phases of developing the project and the potential benefits from the project will be the key components of DPR, the KMC said in a press statement. The metropolis said that the KMC reserves the right to accept the DPR in full or in part. Mahesh Kafle, chief of international affairs coordination division at the KMC, told Xinhua on Wednesday that the Chinese company has been given one-year deadline to complete the DPR from the date of MoU signing. According to KMC, the CRCC will be responsible of the entire cost of the DPR preparation.

China approves new high-speed railway in western region -- China's top economic planner has approved a high-speed railway project in west China's Shaanxi Province. With a total investment of 55.16 billion yuan (7.94 billion U.S. dollars), the new railroad linking Xi'an and Yan'an aims to support western development and poverty reduction, according to the National Development and Reform Commission. Spanning over nearly 292 km, the railway will have 11 stops, and trains with a top speed of 350 kph, with a capacity of 30 million passengers a year. It will take four years and a half to complete.
