BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization rolled out a smart city implementation plan on Tuesday to boost artificial intelligence (AI) development in Shanghai and make the city a national front-runner in AI industry.
The plan said six AI innovation and application demonstration centers will be built in Shanghai and 60 AI application scenarios will be formed by 2020, reported Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News.
Shanghai will focus on applying AI technology in key areas such as manufacturing, medical care, transportation, education, finance, government affairs and security, according to the plan.
It's noted that Xuhui district, where Beiyang AI town is located, would continue to work on smart medical care, smart chip design and smart security. Songjiang district is expected to promote smart manufacturing, brain-like intelligence on its G60 Sci-tech Corridor Artificial Intelligence Industrial Base, while Minhang district may focus on intelligent identification and intelligent healthcare base on Zizhu hi-tech park and Nanqiao hi-tech park, according to the report.
These districts are expected to play demonstrative roles in Shanghai's AI development, given the development of established projects, industry insiders note. (Edited by Su Dan, Niu Huizhe)
