Ghanaian president commissions Chinese diaper factory

December 07, 2018

Abstract : Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo commissioned on Thursday a 40-million-U.S.-dollar baby diaper production plant of Chinese firm Sunda International.

ACCRA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo commissioned on Thursday a 40-million-U.S.-dollar baby diaper production plant of Chinese firm Sunda International.

The factory, which is described as one of the largest baby diaper producers in Sub-Sahara Africa, is sited in Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfrom, southwestern end of the Ghanaian capital Accra.

Commissioning the factory, Akufo-Addo noted that the siting of such a manufacturing plant in Ghana was in line with his vision of "One District, One Factory."

The initiatives the government has been implementing were not gimmicks, but part of a well-thought-out program of social and economic development of the country, the president said.

"They all fit in as to how we can enhance the economy of our country and bring prosperity to Ghana," he said.

The project was the result of existing good relationship between Ghana and China, Akufo-Addo said, urging local residents to collaborate positively with the Chinese investors.

"We will try our best to make more contributions to the development of Ghana. We mean what we say, we will honor our promises," said Wang Shiting, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana.

The ambassador lauded Ghana for its friendly investment environment, giving the assurance that his country will continue to partner with Ghana amid the west African country's industrialization efforts and programs.
