Chinese firm-invested BOT power plant starts to be put into full operation in Vietnam

December 03, 2018

Abstract : The Chinese enterprise-invested phase-1 BOT (build-operate-transfer) coal-fired power plant project in Vinh Tan, a town of south Vietnam's Binh Thuan Province, started to be put into full commercial operation on November 27.

BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- With the test of two 600,000-kilowatt supercritical coal-fired thermal power units finished, the Chinese enterprise-invested phase-1 BOT (build-operate-transfer) coal-fired power plant project in Vinh Tan, a town of south Vietnam's Binh Thuan Province, started to be put into full commercial operation on November 27.

The project was funded by BOT mode, with China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. (CSG), China Power International Holding Ltd. (CPIH) and a Vietnamese power company each taking up 55 percent, 40 percent and 5 percent of the total investment which is expected to be 1.755 billion U.S. dollars.

It is the first BOT power project invested by Chinese companies in Vietnam at present, as well as an important China-Vietnam economic and trade cooperation project, aiming at promoting the Belt and Road construction and power development cooperation in the Greater Mekong Sub-region.

The two units will generate about 8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, which will effectively ease the power shortage in south Vietnam and fuel the country's economic development. (Edited by Gu Shanshan)
