NEW YORK, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- An audio-visual feast presented by the Maonan ethnic group from China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, received rounds of applause when being staged at a music hall on Sunday night in Queens, New York.

This is first time for the Maonan Yinyun Art Troupe of Huanjiang Maonan Autonomous County to make a performance in  the United States.

The performance on Sunday mainly showed the original folk songs and ecological dances of Chinese ethnic minorities of Maonan and Yao living in the Huanjiang Autonomous County of Guangxi, focusing on the unique ethnic customs and cultural forms of ethnic minority areas in southern China.

On Sunday noon, the Maonan Yinyun Art Troupe also staged a flash mob in Times Square, which is the first Maonan cultural show in New York. In just a few dozen minutes, the performances with Maonan characteristics attracted a large number of audiences watching and taking photos.

In August, the Maonan Yinyun Art Troupe was invited to perform at the 67th Young Artists' Festival Bayreuth, Germany, as the only art group formed by artists from a Chinese ethnic group. It was also invited to perform in Thailand, Vietnam and several other countries and also received warm welcome.

Maonan has a population of about 100,000, 60 percent of which live in Huanjiang, Guangxi. Gifted with excellent singing and dancing skills, the Maonan bamboo hat weaving craft they created was also listed as a national intangible culture heritage.
