China's local governments accelerate distributed wind power development

October 16, 2018

Abstract : Some 10 million kilowatts of distributed wind power capacity is expected to built in China following industrial development plans carried out by several Chinese local governments.

风力发电

BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Some 10 million kilowatts of distributed wind power capacity is expected to built in China following industrial development plans carried out by several Chinese local governments.

Tianjin recently introduced an eight-year construction plan (2018-2025) for distributed wind power, following Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Shanxi Province and Gansu Province.

The construction will be carried out in 16 districts outside the central urban area of the city, where the conditions of land, power grids and wind resource meet the requirements, according to the plan.

At present, the city's centralized wind power plants are mainly located in the coastal area, Binhai New Area.

China's National Energy Administration issued the interim administrative measures of the development and construction of distributed wind power projects in April, which marked the development of the distributed wind power on the national level.

So far, many regions have set up goals for developing distributed wind power construction. For example, Shaanxi and Shanxi plan to build distributed wind power projects with 426,000 kilowatts and 987,300 kilowatts installed capacity, respectively.

Apart from development plans, local governments are actively promoting bidding of distributed wind power projects. For example, China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) in July issued a tender notice for a 10 MW distributed wind power project in Henan Province.

Analysts from Orient Securities believe that with the introduction of the special construction plans, the approved new distributed wind power capacity is expected to exceed 10 GW per year and increase by 5 to 8 GW per year after 2019, providing strong support for the development of China's wind power industry.
