BEIJING, Sept.27 (Xinhua) – China’s tech giant Tencent and Unionpay jointly launched two-way cross-border payment service to facilitate Hong Kong resident’s travel and consumption in the mainland of China, according to official announcement from Tencent.
The new payment service will be available from this October covering many merchants in the mainland of China, such as, Didi hailing service and Meituan. It means that Hong Kong residents could buy rail tickets, order take-outs and pay online car-hailing fees using Wechat pay HK, Tencent announced in Shenzhen on Wednesday.
With support from the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), Wechat Pay Hong Kong became the first licensee of Hong Kong stored value payment tools to offer Chinese mainland’s mobile payment services for Hong Kong users. (Edited by Jiang Feifan, Niu Huizhe)
