BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Xinhua News Agency and Australian Associated Press (AAP) Tuesday signed a new agreement on news exchange to further advance bilateral cooperation.

During a meeting with AAP CEO Bruce Davidson in Beijing, Cai Mingzhao, president of Xinhua, said the new agreement serves as a new starting point for cooperation between the two sides, expressing the hope that the deal can further promote bilateral cooperation in many areas.

Cai also hailed the long-term friendly cooperation between Xinhua and AAP since the two started news exchange in the 1990s and the productive cooperation under the framework of AsiaNet.

Speaking highly of the strong ties between the two sides, Davidson said AAP and Xinhua have expanded cooperation areas and enriched content through the years.

He said the signing of the new agreement provides "a great opportunity" for both sides and hopes to continue cooperation with Xinhua in the future.
