BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The first light rail transit (LRT) in Palembang, Indonesia, lately has started trial operations.
The 45km LRT, built by CHEC Indonesia Office, a subsidiary of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), starts from Palembang International Airport and ends at Jakabaring Sports City with 13 stops.
It will provide transportation support for the upcoming Asian Games in Jakarta in mid-August.
The LRT project will not only provide nearly a thousand jobs for local residents, but also effectively ease the traffic pressure in Palembang, said a person in charge of the project. (Edited by Yang Yifan, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
