BEIJING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- China will speed up establishment of a number of artificial intelligence (AI) industry clusters, improve the policy system, and build a foundation platform for AI development, the Xinhua-run Economic Information Daily reported on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, at a press conference, Tang Liangzhi, mayor of Chongqing municipality, revealed that Chongqing will cultivate smart industries, focus on 12 major industries such as big data and AI to create smart industry clusters.
Since the beginning of this year, Guangdong, Tianjin, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Fujian, Sichuan, Anhui and other Chinese provinces and cities, have issued AI industry development policies, and the “AI +” industrial applications have become a new engine of economic growth.
For example, Anhui province has recently released a plan for development of the new-generation artificial intelligence industry to bring the AI industry scale to be 15 billion yuan in 2020.
Data shows that in 2017, China's AI market scale valued at 21.69 billion yuan, an increase of 52.8 percent over 2015.
At the press conference, Wang Xinzhe, chief economist of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), said that the MIIT will guide the construction of an AI industry technology innovation system, consolidate smart sensors and AI chips, and deepen the integrated applications.
