BEIJING, Jan.23 (Xinhua) -- The first rail-sea X9089 freight train (Urumqi-Kuryk-Bauku) left Urumqi on January 19, exiting Alataw Pass and reached Baku, capital of Azerbaijan via the Port of Kuryk in Kazakhstan.

The whole journey takes eight days and covers 4,186 kilometers, saving more than two third of time compared to previous means of transportation, according to a report by Economic Daily.

The X9089 would serve as another efficient logistics channel linking China to Georgia, Iran, Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and other countries, says the report.

Now China-Europe Train Urumqi Center operates 18 lines, dispatching three trains on average every day. The trains transport more than 200 types of products varying from cotton yarn, general merchandise to petroleum and electromechanical equipment, automotive parts and electronic equipment, according to Nan Jun, Vice General Manager of Xinjiang Xintie International Logistics Co., Ltd.

The center will reportedly dispatch 1,400 trains in 2018. (Edited by Niu Huizhe, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
