Baosteel Pak nuclear project

April 18, 2017

Abstract : Shanghai-listed steel manufacturer Baosteel has won the bid for supplying steel material to Pakistan's Karachi Coastal Power station, which is the first export deal for China-designed third-generation nuclear power technology, reported ifeng.com.

Shanghai-listed steel manufacturer Baosteel has won the bid for supplying steel material to Pakistan's Karachi Coastal Power station, which is the first export deal for China-designed third-generation nuclear power technology, domestic news portal ifeng.com reported on Monday, without specifying the name of the steel products.

China has become the fourth country after the U.S., France and the Republic of Korea to independently export third-generation nuclear power technology, said the report.

Under the Chinese government's plan for nuclear power, Baosteel has been developing steel for nuclear power plants since 2006. The company's products are in line with all nuclear safety regulations and have been widely applied in the domestic market, the report said.

Following the announcement, the company's shares closed at 6.50 yuan (94 cents) on Monday, down 0.76 percent from Monday's opening.

The announcement came as some companies in Pakistan have raised concerns over Chinese steel imports.

In February, Pakistan's National Tariff Commission imposed anti-dumping duties on Chinese galvanized steel coils exports for a period of five years, tribune.com reported. The decision took effect on February 8.

The nuclear power plant in Pakistan's Karachi broke ground in 2015.
