CRCC signs EPC contract on Southeast Asia’s largest smart farm project

BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- China Railway Construction (Southeast Asia) CO., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Co., Ltd. (CRCC), signed an engineering procurement construction (EPC) contract on a smart farm project in Thailand with Win Win House and Development Co., Ltd. on Dec. 6.

The project, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, includes designing and building 300 prefabricated steel-structure planting and breeding plants, which will cover a gross floor area of approximately 2.7 million square meters.

Construction period of the project is scheduled to be two years. The contract amount is 19,356.3 million Baht (about 3,730.48 million yuan). The plants will be installed with LED lighting equipments made in China. The steel structure and environmental friendly light-weight walls to be used in the initial period of construction are also produced in China.

The project would significantly improve the technology and level of modernization of agricultural production in Thailand and increase the economic efficiency and added value of Thai agricultural products, said an official of the Thai company. Each farmer involved in the project is expected to see annual income grow from the current 50,000 Baht to 500,000 Baht, according to the official.  (By Yang Qi, Li Yang, You Dongjie, kateqiyang@xinhua.org)
